Well, the hunting trip had some ups, and some downs. Rachel, Julie, and McKenzie came down with the flu while we were away, and they looked miserable. I feel so bad for them, because the rest of us had a ton of fun. I’m not going to lie, I thought we would all get out there and just scare all of the animals away, but then things go awesome! Michelle spotted a fox in a little burrowing hole, we waited about 30 minutes, but it came out and she got it! I couldn’t believe it, but that was nothing compared to what happened next.

We crossed a shallow stream through a nice little rock path and went upwind, it was the perfect bottleneck. About an hour later, after camouflaging ourselves extremely well, our big break finally came, and a herd of deer came up stream to drink, and that is when I seen him. A massive 8 point buck! From my experience, if you wait too long, you’ll allow your nerves to get he best of you, and so I quickly shot. Direct hit! Or so I thought, the big buck ran off as if nothing had happened, and we couldn’t find the blood trail due to the river. I was the only one amongst our party who had shot before, so they all thought that he had escaped, but I knew better.

After about an hour of searching, it was getting dark. Taylor was at the plantation, and they had some hunting dogs, but I was afraid that maybe I hadn’t hit the deer. If it got dark, we may have to call off the search. Luckily Al, one of the blood hounds, quickly picked up the scent, even in the water. I was amazed, the deer apparently bounced from side to side but he kept on it. About a mile up stream we finally found the poor buck, on the other side of a hill. We would have never found him, but man was he a beauty!

I hope that everybody else can share in their experiences next week. We are going to go ahead and meet at Stacy’s, same bat time, same bat channel!
